Boxing Career - Part 2

In November 2009, David took the step up to heavyweight with his fight against Nikolay Valuev.

The fight was billed as a ‘David vs Goliath’ match - David weighed in at almost 100 pounds less than his opponent!

David’s next match was in April 2010 against John Ruiz. He won convincingly and by TKO in the ninth round.

In November 2010, David fought Audley Harrison in an all-British heavyweight challenge.

The match was one of the biggest anti-climaxes in boxing for many a year. Haye won easily when the referee stopped the fight a minute from the end of the third round.

In the fight, Audley Harrison only landed a single jab - evidence that David absolutely dominated the bout.

In July 2011, David fought Wladimir Klitschko in a unification fight, the biggest boxing event of the decade so far.

Sadly, David lost the bout for a number of reasons - see the chapter in this book!

After the fight, David announced his retirement, but said it had been a long-term plan to retire early.

He did however return to the ring one last time when he fought Dereck Chisora soon after the two had brawled at a press conference. David won after flooring Chisora twice in the fifth round.
